  • Our children’s program includes a mix of Taekwondo, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jujitsu, Muay Thai, and kettlebell strength training.
  • Recently we added Kali martial arts. Unlike most styles, Kali puts weapons training first.
  • Practicing weapons requires focused attention, motor steadiness and helps children with impairing symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
  • Our children’s program is for ages 3.5 through teens.

What Martial Arts teaches

Martial arts begins and ends with Respect

We see this in every class when students and Instructors bow to each other in the start and end of every lesson. We also see it when partners bow to each other when they start working together, and when students bow when they first walk onto the training area.
When we bow, we look up at the person and make eye contact. When we bow, we are telling ourselves and the entire school that we take the things we are about to do seriously, and we are ready and prepared to do what is necessary for our training.
If we treat things as though they are important, we are treating them with respect, and we can create a place of learning. This also applies to our interactions with people. When we treat our Instructors, fellow students, parents, family members as though they are important, as though they have something to offer us, we are treating them with respect, and we are building strong relationships and opportunities to learn from each other.

– I am developing myself in a positive manner and avoiding anything that would reduce my mental growth or physical health.

– I am developing self-discipline in order to bring out the best in myself and others.

– I am using what I learn in class constructively and defensively, to help myself and my fellow man and never to be abusive or offensive.

Focus your eyes, focus your mind, focus your body

Children who take martial arts lessons from 3.5 to 11 can help them learn to handle bullying, teaches healthy fitness habits, encourages discipline to help develop good study habits, and teaches kids respect and non-violent conflict resolution.
While the physical aspects of exercise and Martial Arts training improve your child’s general health, it likewise improves emotional health with increased self-esteem and self-confidence as well as decreased tension, stress, anxiety and depression. 
Studies also show that a complex physical activity, like martial arts, strengthens neural networks in the brain, and enables kids with ADHD to practice self-control. Movement helps them develop coordination while building strength.

Positive Psychology in Martial Arts

Children will attend classes and learn proper stances, punches, kicks, exercises, stretches and strength training. However, these lessons usually have deeper meanings which are important life lessons.
While there are certainly many benefits to participating in other sports and activities like soccer, gymnastics, and tennis, few can come close to the physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual health and wellness benefits that may be derived from serious martial arts practice.  Below are some benefits of martial arts.

Responsibility

Martial arts is a pathway to self-actualization. We learn that if we don’t take responsibility, we may lose the things most dear to us. With this knowledge, we become more aware of the words we use and our non-verbal communication when faced with conflict. We have control over how we respond to others and whether we choose to escalate or de-escalate conflict, whether we choose to avoid or evade a fight, and the extent of force that we use to end a conflict.

Discipline. 

Regular practice of martial arts helps us gain the ability to control our emotions, desires and reactions. Martial arts teach us to think before acting, regulate our movements, and focus on action rather than reaction. being.

Perseverance

People with perseverance are more likely to be able to accomplish long term goals in the face of adversity. Excelling in martial arts is extremely difficult – it takes thousands of hours of practice and dedication encountering many challenges along the way to developing new skill sets and advancing in belt ranks.

Values

Establishing goals based on your core values infuses them with deeper meaning and energizes you to pursue them passionately. Values set the course by which goals are established. Living a life based on your values is a foundation for achieving a balanced and satisfying life.

Confidence

A lack of self-confidence has devastating consequences for children and adults leading to avoiding social interactions, inappropriate fears, poor relationships, poor job performance, depression, and substance abuse. With poor self-esteem, you are more likely to give up on goals in the face of adversity. Martial arts excel at promoting self-confidence and self-esteem in its practitioners. By teaching respect for others, including your opponents while instilling the importance of individual responsibility, martial arts promotes balance between humility and confidence.

Respect

Having respect for others improves all of your relationships. Respect begets respect. Showing respect and appreciation of others encourages them to respect you and increases the likelihood of having others be kind to you.

Master Joe Tabakhman

Founder, Taekwondo Master & Certified Fitness Instructor

Master Joe Tabakhman has been committed to training in Martial Arts for over 30 years. He has earned his 5th degree black belt in the Korean art of Taekwondo and he is a certified trainer in Russian Kettlebells. He has competed in full contact fighting tournaments (BAMA). Teaching his students has been his true passion and he has been effectively teaching for over 25 years.

Grandmaster Jay Lally

Taekwondo Grandmaster & Certified Fitness Instructor

Grandmaster Jay Lally is a 50-year martial arts veteran with an 8th degree black belt in the Korean art of Taekwondo and has been actively practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu for over 15 years. He is a level III certified trainer in Ginastica Natural® as well as certified trainer in Russian Kettlebells. He has presented and instructed numerous government agencies such as the FBI, DEA, and several sheriff departments as well as the united states postal service.
